What made you smile today?

Today has been filled with multiple reasons to smile
Here are some examples...

-One of the girls in my class with down syndrome mastered her SIX sight words today!
(when she said them all, I had her read them again & felt like a proud momma!)

-A mom dropped in during lunch today and brought the first grade teachers some delicious Qdoba burritos for lunch!

Day of Birth

What nerd spends her birthday blogging?
THIS one.

I couldn't think of a better way to spend my birthday, then by working with dear old first graders (while feeling like hell), visiting my dear old gram and bringing her a good ol' Arby's jamocha shake, spending some quality time with my ma and gram, then driving home to change into my pj's, hope in bed, sip on some ice cold water, and watch a lot of stupid, yet addicting, trashy television all night.

Check out these hot ladies that I was blessed to spend my day with...
Hot mom and rockin' gram...yeah

JEALOUS, much?
;)

Not a typical 23 year old birthday, but laying in bed around 8:00pm is my typical day.
I have actually became quite content with things and my not so typical and rather dull life (at times). While most peopel look at me and wonder how I manage always falling asleep around 9:00pm (yet I can't stay stay asleep more than 2hours at night) or how I like not partying and going out with my friends. To those people, I can say yes, it is very hard and frustrating seeing others going out around you having a gay ol' time while you just sit by and watch.
but honestly,
sometimes I actually enjoy my life.
It's quiet. It can suck (but whose doesn't at times).
But it's my life.
<3

While being sick surely has it's crappy times...more than you know
I have met some freakishly amazing people.
Some who have chronic illnesses and some who don't.
...all are equally important in my life

Special shout out to @Sarah from Sunlight After Rain

and Brooke over at Growing Older, Growing Up?

and to EVERYONE else out there in the blogging world who cares.
Your constant words, comments, encouragement, and all mean the world to me!
Thanks for being a part of my life :)
A great birthday to know that so many people care
<3
------------
Happy Birthday to me :)
I am SO blessed.

There's a Code for That!

I'm sure most of us have heard the ever so popular phrase
"there's an app for that"

Well, the next "great" thing you will be hearing within years to come is "there's a code for that!"
"What does she mean?" you're probably thinking to yourself...

Read on for more information of some crazy things that are about to change in the health care/insurance world that will change things drastically...

Currently, there are approximately 18,000 different codes that's doctors have to use to categorize medical issues to send over to insurance companies to see if they will be approved or not for coverage.

Code. noun: a system used for brevity or secrecy of communication, in which arbitrarily chosen words, letters, or symbols are assigned definite meanings.

What are they? Health/Insurance codes are specific numbers that insurance companies use to categorize every little specific thing that doctors charge them for...
For example: If you break a bone, have your tonsils out, get an x-ray, flu shot, or need stitches.

As mot of us know, getting insurance companies to approve your test/procedure/medicine/etc... can be quite difficult right now. Unfortunately, things are about to get even worse :/

------------------

Within the next two years, the codes are going to increase from 18,000 to over 140,000 different codes

Instead of having a code for just a broken bone, there is going to be a code for ever specific bone in the body and how you broke it and where you were at! If you have to have surgery to repair an artery, it goes as far as to ask "which artery" needs to be repaired and "approved" to be compensated by the insurance companies.

These codes are so specific, and might I say RIDICULOUS that they even have codes for things such as...
I. being burned to do water skis starting on fire
II. being struck by a turtle (seriously?!)
and
III. bitten by a turtle

I wish I was kidding...

These codes will be officially put into place starting October 1st. 2013 according to the Wall Street Journal Article found here

While some may feel this may not be such a bad thing to be "more specific", this allows insurance companies to control our health care even more and make it even MORE difficult to get the testing and procedures on may need, let alone a diagnosis!

I don't know about you all, but just as the future holds great opportunities for medical research advancement, it also looks more and more grim for individuals with pre-existing conditions and poor health :/

Just have to trust that in the end, it will work out for everyone <3

Me, Myself, and I

*******
I have a couple new readers/subscribers and it still continues to shock me that people are truly interested in my daily musings and not so well formulated writings of a "somewhat typical" (besides health) twenty-something year old.
I am not the type of blogger who writes posts just to please their followers, but instead, I type freely about whatever is on my mind at that random given moment - and who really knows what that will end up being...
So I decided that I would make some fun (positive) lists of things that will help you get to know me just a smidgen-bit more :)

- Here goes nothing -

[I Like...]

Hot Apple Cider

Crisp fall nights where a sweater is needed :) Picture perfect!

Taking walks at night

Having a pet - it is SO comforting during times of distress

Posting quotations up around my apartment to brighten a day and think positive!

Embracing and learning about other cultures and traditions <3

The little blog awards that are occasionally passed around this blogging world :)
It makes me feel like people actually enjoy my random thoughts
{I was lucky enough to be graced with two awards this past week}

 ------------
This first is the Liebster Award
The Liebster Award is meant to connect us even more and spotlight NEWER BLOGGERS who have less than 200 followers (but hopefully not for long).
The rules are:
1. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.
2. Reveal your top 5 picks and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
3. Post the award on your blog.
4. Bask in the love from the most supportive people on the Internet – other writers.
5. And best of all – have fun and spread the karma!

- About the sender -
I like love the blog "Far from the Mocking World" as told by the inspiring Kaisha.
The reason: No - it's not what you are thinking. I am not writing something about this wonderful author because the so called "rules" say to, but because she truly deserves a little recognition :)
Personally, I happen to think that she is one of the most real and thought provoking bloggers out there. She doesn't care about the attention and what some may call "popularity" of the blogging world - her passion comes from within and you can really tell :) Go check our her blog, as I know you will love it as much as I do <3

Here are my FIVE picks in no particular order

---------------
The second is the "Sunshine Award"
This award was given to me by a lovely lady that I have just recently started to follow
Her name is Holz and her blog is "Galaxy Glamour"
She is a wonderful writer about all things fashion and beautiful!

This award makes me think of other blogs and people who never cease to amaze me. They have left some of the nicest comments (even though I don't even know these people, at times I feel like we've been friends for quite some time).
Here are some ladies who always seem to be a little ray of sunshine and make me smile :)

& thank you everyone who reads my blog<3

12 September 2011

The terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

Okay, so my day really isn't that bad.
I just love that book and the title seemed "somewhat" fitting.

But really...
You know those days where you just feel like a big fat pile and all your clothes don't seem to fit and everything is just making you mad and nothing seems to go right and you regret all those extra calories you ever consumed days/weeks/and even months ago!
That is exactly how I am feeling right now, and my lovely old cat seemed to display my feelings quite perfectly this morning!

He attempted to sleep in my sink when I awoke and this is how I was greeted when I went to brush my teeth...
I don't know how that could possible be comfortable?
His 25lbs of absolute furry goodness just won't quite fit like in there like it used to -
I guess my Chunk is getting a little "too chunky"

So, while I really want to sit and complain about my troubles,
I just have to think...
at least I don't look like that! ;)

Happy Monday!

A Day of Remembrance

September 11th, 2001
 As I remember...
It started as just another typical day of an average 8th grade student.
I woke up a little late and skipped breakfast, as my friends dad was early to pick me up.
The school day began and the class was chipper and talkative as usual; however, that didn't last long.
Math class had just begun and the grunts and frustrations of not understanding these problems seemed like our biggest concern at the time, until Mrs. Chytil (the history teacher next door) came into our room with floods of tears streaming down her face.
*Mrs Chytil was one of those teachers who never showed emotion and was very stern - it was in that moment the class went still and knew something was terribly wrong*
I remember specifically her saying "it's the twin towers".
I looked around at my peers, with a confused look in my face, only to see everyone just completely dazed and confused as well.
Our teacher ran out of the room as we all sat in silence, with a couple speculations about what the twin towers might be...

Management was a word that was thrown out the window that day.
...you see, the seventh and eighth graders had the whole third floor to thenselves, while the K-6 classrooms were on the first and second...
I don't know what was happening on the bottom levels, but I remember just going up and down hallways and sitting in the science classroom as Mr. Colon had CNN playing and everyone just watched in utter disbelief. We asked so many questions, like "what are the twin towers" "what is happening" and so many more...

We were able to leave school whenever our parents/rides were there to pick us up.
I remember the absolute terror of walking outside...it is that feeling you get from the unknown...
We just starred up in that bright sky and just felt very uneasy and vulnerable.

*The one thing that I clearly remember is the bright sky and gentle breeze*
I couldn't fathom how the sky could look so beautiful when something so dreadful just happened to our nation? The whole way home, I just kept starring, starring at the sky -
I felt the gentle breee again as I got out of the car and my mom picked me up in my arms, squeezing ever so tightly, as she never wanted to let me go. It was in that moment, I felt safe.

Safe, in a sense of comfort - we were still on edge about what could happen next.
What if this, what if that...
The "what-if's" literally flooded my mind.
All that mattered is that if something happened, I was with the one person who mattered most to me in the whole entire world, my mom.

It wasn't until later that night that my and I sat and talked about what is happening.
The people who lost their loved ones, the pain, suffering, and agony of that city...
the list goes on, SO many people were/are affected.

Today is a day, I want to take time to say thank you to all those heroes who risked their life to help serve others, to  pray for all the families who lost a loved one, and to never forget that through many heartaches and even in the worst of times, we will prevail.

I believe that good can come from evil -
Throughout that time in our life, for once it wasn't about whether your democrat or republican,  gay or straight, rich or poor, we all worked together for a common goal, and that...that was beauty.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone today
God Bless you all :)

Labor Day Weekend

.It's been a long Labor Day Weekend.
I picked up a babysitting job to make a little cash, and let me tell you...that kept me busy!
It has been quite some time since I have: changed a diaper, watched hours of Dora The Explorer and Nick Jr, played with sidewalk chalk, blew bubbles, and played house and hide and go seek...
After the long weekend, it made me realize just how needed naps really are!
I wish that as adults, we could still get an occasional "nap time break".
I mean heck, people get smoke breaks, we should be allowed nap breaks!
{yes, I am totally kidding...}
---------------

My mom and gram are in the good old sunny state of Florida visiting my family while I was left here. By myself, working, sitting around, not doing a lot  -
Here is the first card she gave me before she left.
It was nice...I even got a gift card :)
...and then I get this one!
My mom loves to make me smile and crack the jokes!
When my best friend went on her first date, she got picked up at my house.
(first of all, that was a mistake!)
He rang the doorbell and my mom answered with underwear on her head, while contiuing to talk in some weird foreign accent saying something along the lines of  "Oh hello boy, are you here to pick up the good old Lisa? Where are you taking her and what are your intentions"
Sadly, no, I am not fibbing. She really did.

You know what's even better? I can't wait to embarrass my kids someday :)

**I pick them up later tonight and made them a little welcome home snack!**

*please note that this beautiful picture was not the result of my oh so fab baking skills.
They tasted just as good; however, they didn't quite look that way -
so I thought I would share the professional pic ; )
