Oh Mylanta...

What is happening to all the television programs now-a-days.
Don't get my wrong, I still love my guilty pleasure of reality shows, but I am starting to notice that some of them are getting a little "too extreme".

I'm sure you have heard of "Toddlers and Tiaras" on The Learning Channel
(the learning channel...really?)
This is what we want our children/everyone to "learn" about...

 I assumed things like:
  • hair pieces
  • flippers (fake "perfect" teeth)
  • extreme makeup
  • thousand dollar dresses
  • fake tans
were bad enough. All of this is just a facade. It is simply unattainable and unrealistic. Unfortunately, it is things like this lead children to believe their bodies have to be perfect (when in fact, it will never naturally look that way) NOR should it!

They begin to forget what's really important.
Beauty is only skin deep, and true beauty lies within.

BUT, let me introduce you to a NEW show.
"Dance Moms"
Okay - it's on the Lifetime network, you would probably assume that it would be decent, right?

Well, let me just inform you of the latest episode that premiered this evening at 9:00pm central time:
Title: "Wildly Inappropriate"
Description: "Revealing dance costumes cause a scandal."

The moms made comments such as "they look like prostiTOTS" and they went back and forth debating appropriate terminology of the words scandalous, revealing, & skimpy ...Oh lordy.

These kids are being told repeatedly that they need to be perfect and anything less than first is simply unacceptable. To go even further...one parents claimed that she puts dance over school {gasp!}

It seems with this show, the parents may also be described as more intense than the moms of Toddlers and Tiaras! To see the video interview from ABCnews titled: "Dance Mom's' Lifetime show: Kids' Provocative Moves: Pushing" click here

While these girls are amazing dancers, it just saddens me to see this...
What are your thoughts? Too much or no...

i haven't seen toddlers and tiaras but they remind me of the jon bonet ramsey case back in the '90s which was pretty sad.

Okay I seriously cannot take the term prostiTOTs seriously. I read it and just laughed. I know it's serious but it's so ridiculous!

Honestly, that just makes me want to cry. Perfectionism was always pushed on me growing up-- I just rebelled against it-- but it is VERY damaging to a child self esteem to expect nothing less than perfect. It hurts my heart that mothers put their children through all of that. Kids should be KIDS for crying out loud!!!

Reality tv unearths some crazy "cults" of people. This show looks like the classic "moms trying to live through their parents" ... I always end up feeling so bad for the kids, cause they are just that kids, who should be playing with friends, not dressing in naughty outfits!

honestly, i've just given up watching tv because of shows like these. I haven't seen either, but heard enough about it that I know I don't approve. I don't understand why we can't just let our kids be kids. They should be able to run and play outside with their friends instead of worrying about makeup and dance moves. that for the real world once they get old enough.

Ugh. Sadly as a competitive dancer for 10 years, this is what it is truly like. I danced 6 days a week and wouldn't get home until 10 or 11, and then I would have to eat dinner and do homework. It was fun for a while and I LOVED my team and dancing and competitions, but when the parents got involved, they seemed to forget that it was an activity for the kids.

i think these types of tv programmes are terrible... i couldnt view the video that was on the post because it says its not available in the UK but i've seen toddlers and tiaras, and it just sickens me to think that parents treat their innocent children this way.

where are the days when being a kid means u go out to play for hours on end and climb trees and get muddy, and dont have to care about looking prim and proper.

it seems that adulthood starts at 5 years old these days.
